Position Description

Evaluate, review and interpret geophysical, geological and engineering data in order to define the characterisation of oil and gas fields, thus contributing to the effective management of the company's hydrocarbon reserves and production.

Major Areas of Responsibility

• Responsible for interpreting and integrating seismic, well, and core data to build robust 3D subsurface or geological models that define a subsurface reservoir's structural and stratigraphic framework, rock properties, and initial fluid volumes. 
• Carry out all geological work required for the timely execution of designated projects in an efficient and cost-effective manner, according to agreed technical specifications and standards.
• Coordinates and participates in the planning and control of drilling and workover operational activities in assigned rigs. Includes ensuring timely and accurate implementation of various operational programs, e.g., drilling, workover, completion, logging, testing, acidizing, etc.
• Collaborate in the supervision of open and cased hole logging, VSP surveying, mud logging, casing and TD definition, conventional and sidewall coring, perforations, fishing operations, side-tracking, final reporting, service company relations, data acquisition planning, pore pressure prediction and Quality Control of well planning and final well reports.
• Provide technical / operational advice while drilling, maintaining up to date well progress data, subsurface maps, and geological data.
• Measures progress against the schedule at regular bi-weekly reviews.
• Participates in formation evaluation contract strategy and contract bids to ensure the most cost effective and technically sound approach is adopted.
• Identify areas where the acquisition of additional data would be an economic method of reducing geological risks and uncertainties.
• Provide analysis of well-integrated depositional environments to support 3D geological modelling.  
• Actively participate in coring and coring evaluation and description activities and supervise contractor.  
• Consult and interact with other disciplines as appropriate for the optimisation of interpretations, models, plans and reports.
• Provide necessary technical support to and interface with colleagues in other disciplines in the Technical Department.
• Provide functional advice and quality control to under-study geologists.
• Provides mentoring to less experienced staff as appropriate.

Leadership

• Ability to provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level geologists within the team
• Strong cross-discipline collaboration skills — ability to work effectively with reservoir engineers, petrophysicists, drilling engineers, and production teams
• Ability to lead or contribute to integrated subsurface studies — ensuring geological input is robust, timely, and aligned with field development objectives
• Demonstrates ownership of assigned assets and studies — takes accountability for the quality and completeness of geological deliverables
• Actively contributes to knowledge sharing, peer reviews, and departmental technical sessions
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously within a fast-paced operational environment

Minimum Requirements

• B.Sc Geology or Geophysics or related Geoscience discipline
• Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in oil and gas exploration and production, with a focus on subsurface geological interpretation, seismic interpretation, full static reservoir modelling, field development planning and operations geology
• Experience in using popular industry software
• Experience in technical report writing.
• Experience in documentation.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

• M.Sc. in the above discipline
• Minimum of 5 years in a senior or lead geologist capacity with demonstrated ownership of subsurface studies, siesmic interpretation, static reservoir modelling, field development recommendations and well planning.
• Proven track record of working on Niger Delta assets - stratigraphy, sedimentology, structural geology, and hydrocarbon systems specific to the region.
• Experience working within integrated asset teams alongside reservoir engineers, petrophysicists, and production technologists.
• Exposure to FEED, exploration, appraisal and development phase studies, including well planning and prognosis development
• Demonstrated experience presenting subsurface technical cases to senior management, partners, and regulatory bodies

Required Knowledge and Abilities

• Strong knowledge of sedimentary basin analysis, structural interpretation, petroleum systems evaluation, and 2D/3D seismic interpretation including horizon and fault picking, attribute analysis, and depth conversion
• Experience in petrophysical log analysis, well data integration, and contributing to geological and static reservoir model building in collaboration with reservoir engineering teams
• Ability to define field appraisal programmes - well location recommendations, target definition, pre-drill risk assessment and estimate hydrocarbon volumes (STOIIP/GIIP) with associated uncertainty quantification
• Familiarity with reserves classification frameworks (SPE-PRMS, NUPRC-NNS), production geology, and Nigerian upstream regulatory requirements including NUPRC field development plan submission guidelines.
• Proficient in industry-standard geoscience software (Petrel or equivalent) with strong ability to prepare and present technical reports, geological maps, and subsurface interpretations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Uncompromising on HSSE, ethics & compliance is a ‘must have’.
