Position Description

The Sustainability Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving Aradel Holdings Plc’s sustainability and ESG framework, ensuring that environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and governance excellence are embedded into business strategy, operations, and stakeholder engagement.

The role provides strategic leadership in aligning Aradel’s upstream activities with regulatory requirements, international ESG standards, and long-term value creation, while supporting Aradel’s license to operate as a responsible indigenous oil and gas operator in Nigeria. The position works closely with Operations & Asset Teams, HSE, Investor relations, Government Relations, Finance, and all relevant departments to deliver measurable sustainability outcomes that protect business value and reputation.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  1. Sustainability Strategy & ESG Integration
  • Develop and operationalise Aradel’s Sustainability and ESG Strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, business plans, and risk appetite.
  • Embed sustainability principles into project planning, operations, investment decisions, and business performance management.
  • Translate ESG commitments into clear initiatives, targets, KPIs, and governance mechanisms.
  • Serve as the focal point for cross-functional sustainability coordination across Aradel entities and assets.
  1. Environmental Management & Climate Responsibility
  • Provide oversight on environmental sustainability initiatives including carbon management, energy efficiency, waste management, water stewardship, biodiversity protection, and environmental remediation.
  • Support compliance with Nigerian environmental laws and regulations, including regulatory reporting and audits.
  • Work closely with HSE and Operations to ensure environmental risks are identified, mitigated, and monitored proactively.
  • Support climate-related risk assessments and sustainability improvement initiatives relevant to upstream oil and gas operations.
  1. Governance, Policy & Compliance
  • Develop, maintain, and review sustainability-related policies, frameworks, and procedures in line with regulatory and industry best practices.
  • Support enterprise risk management by identifying ESG-related risks and opportunities, working closely with Risk, Internal Audit, and Compliance teams.
  • Ensure sustainability governance structures support transparent decision-making, accountability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Work closely with the Board Sustainability Committee and relevant stakeholders to ensure alignment and proactive support of the Company`s ESG & Carbon initiatives
  1. ESG Reporting & Disclosure
  • Coordinate the preparation of ESG, sustainability, and relevant regulatory reports, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely submission.
  • Align disclosures with recognized ESG and sustainability reporting frameworks (as applicable to Aradel’s context).
  • Work with Finance and Corporate Communications to ensure sustainability performance is communicated clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
  1. Stakeholder Engagement & External Relations
  • Support structured engagement with regulators, partners, and industry stakeholders on sustainability-related matters.
  • Provide technical sustainability input into engagements led by Investor Relations, Government Relations, and Corporate Communications.
  • Monitor sustainability trends, regulations, and industry expectations relevant to indigenous operators in Nigeria.
  1.  Performance Measurement & Continuous Improvement
  • Define sustainability KPIs and track performance against targets across environmental, social, and governance pillars.
  • Analyse sustainability data to inform decision-making, risk mitigation, and performance improvement.
  • Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned, audits, and internal reviews.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Social Sciences, or related discipline.
  • A postgraduate qualification or professional certification in Sustainability, ESG, Environmental Management, or related fields is an added advantage.

     Experience

  • Minimum of 10 –12 years relevant experience, with progressive responsibility in sustainability, ESG, HSE or corporate responsibility, preferably within the oil and gas or extractive sector.
  • Demonstrated experience working with regulatory authorities, internal stakeholders, and host communities in Nigeria.
